Original Breaks

Love to the World! Some serious DOPE music and news this week, plus the introduction of Sway Beats’ MC Spotlight! Starting out with some gems we came across on Soundcloud:

Outta Bongolia – The Breakbeat Junkie

Breakbeat Junkie’s biography on Facebook:

Coming straight outa Nottingham the pause button master decided to ditch his cassette tapes and ZX spectrum for 21st century computer and keyboard and has since fast grown a reputation amongst avid beat heads for making superb slices of Funk, Hip-Hop and breaks and rarely would it deviate…the rest is history.
All aboard the Funky break train!

Toro Mata – Inmortal Evolucion Crew

This was posted on Inmortal Evolucion Crew’s (Argentina) Facebook. DOPE!

Weekly Classics

Blow Your Whistle – Soul Searchers

This track was very popular on our Facebook page when it was the Bboy Sound of the Day.

It’s been sampled many times but the original joint is just so DOPE!

Set It Off – Big Daddy Kane

Nobody can stand still when this beat drops.

The Bridge – MC Shan

This Juice Crew classic isn’t just a DOPE track, but also was one of the opening shots in one of Hip-hop’s earliest beefs! Some background from Wikipedia:

The Bridge Wars was a hip hop rivalry during the mid-to-late 1980s and early 1990s, that arose from a dispute over the true birthplace of hip hop music and retaliation over the rejecting of a record for airplay. The Bridge Wars originally involved The South Bronx’s Boogie Down Productions, led by KRS-One, and Marley Marl’s Juice Crew, hailing from Queensbridge. KRS-One and Marley Marl have since officially retired the feud, with the release of their collaborative 2007 album Hip-Hop Lives.

Sway Beats’ MC Spotlight

Introducing Sway Beats’ MC Spotlight! A new column featuring selections from Bboysounds selector Sway Beats. Follow Sway Beats on Twitter for the DOPEst Bboy-friendly MC’s from around the world.

Speed Beat – X:144 & DJ SPS

X:144 is a killer MC and producer out of Orlando, Florida. One of Orlando’s most established MCs, X:144 was in Egypt amid the Egyptian Revolution in early 2011, and regularly updated his friends, fans, and followers on the situation. One such update:

I speak to people that go to Tahrir square everyday. I’m blessed. #Jan25 #Egypt

DJ SPS is one of the most amazing DJs we’ve ever seen live, with what seems like a supernatural mental connection with the turntables. IF you’ve never seen him play, treat yourself to it now.

Some notes from the video:

X:144 and SPS’ performance of “Speed Beat” live at the last show of the “Quit Your Dead End Job” tour. This video was shot and edited by www.BrokenMachineFilms.com. Be sure pick up a copy of X:144 and SPS’ new CD “m.e” at your local record shop or at www.nonsenserecords.com

Follow these boys at @x144 and @DJSPS.
